Beast Mode Nutrition talked with Central College, two sport athlete, Sam Retz about nutirtion and her favorite foods that help fuel her through her year around training!  Take a look!

How important is nutrition to your performance?

Nutrition is a large part of my performance, it is just as critical as the workout itself.  It is impossible for me to reach my full potential if I don’t eat nutritionally.

What is your best advice to other athletes about nutrition?
Eating healthy doesn’t mean you can’t indulge you just have to limit yourself.

What is your favorite breakfast food?
Breakfast is my favorite meal! I love at sorts of breakfast food, eggs, sausage, bacon, oatmeal, fruit, muffins, pancakes, yogurt, waffles, hash browns you name it! It is a very tough decision but I think chocolate chocolate chip pancakes are my favorite, they’re not the healthiest food but they are mighty delicious!

What is your favorite cheat food?
This is tricky, I have a rather large sweet tooth, I would say fruit pizza, I can never eat just one slice. Ice cream and Peanut Butter M&M’s are also very high on the list.

If you had one last meal, what would it be?
I would have a breakfast smorgasbord! I would have all kinds of breakfast food imaginable! Omelets, waffles, several fruit kabobs, hash browns, fried potatoes, smoothies, bacon, muffins, etc!

Athlete's Corner with Central College Football Offensive lineman and starting center, Casey Tanner.

Beast Mode Nutrition talked with offensive lineman Casey Tanner about the perks of good nutrition and how he is able to still stay athletic while gaining weight to play offensive line.

BMN: How important is nutrition to your performance?
It is very important!  What you put in your body dictates what you get out of your body, so if you want to perform great, you have to eat great.

BMN: How were you able to put on the much needed weight to play offensive line and still be faster and stronger than when you came to Central College?
It was sort of a progression.  As I watched my nutrition, I was able to gain (good) weight slowly enough for my body to adapt and become used to moving around more weight.  And as my body continues to get stronger, it can also continue to move the weight faster.

BMN:What is your favorite breakfast food?
This is a favorite for when I'm trying to gain weight.  Its sort of a breakfast sandwich.  It contains two slices of toasted wheat bread with chunky peanut butter and fruit jelly spread on them, two cooked eggs, and two slices of bacon all stacked on one another making a colossal egg sandwich.

BMN: Whats your best advice about nutrition for other athletes?
Avoid eating large amounts of food in a short amount of time.  Rather than eating a lot at one meal, eat smaller amounts of food spread out into multiple times a day.  Allow your body to keep up with your intake.

BMN: If you had one last meal, what would it be?
I would have to make a trip to Kansas City, home of BBQ, and order a sidecar chicken sandwich from Wabash and order a side of their fries, baked beans, and coleslaw.  I'd also have to throw in some of my mom's homemade pumpkin pie with a glass of milk too.  It wouldn't be the healthiest meal but it would definitely be my choice for my last.

BMN: If you made your own protein brand, what would you call it?
Rhino Power! It might sound a little cheesy but it would definitely pack a punch.  It would be the ideal protein for any offensive linemen trying to bulk up and become stronger.

Brady Hill: It is very important!  I work just as hard with my nutrition as I do with my workouts.
BMN: What is your best advice to other athletes about nutrition?
Brady Hill: Just because food has a lot of fat in it, does not mean it will make you fat, but it has to be the right type of fat.
BMN:What is your favorite breakfast food?
Brady Hill: My favorite breakfast food is my homemade omelet made with 4 Omega-3 eggs, turkey, ham, and cottage cheese!
BMN: What is you favorite cheat food?
Brady Hill:  My favorite cheat food is PIZZA!
BMN: If you had one last meal, what would it be?
Brady Hill: A 24 oz Steak, a baked potato, biscuits and gravy, my homemade omelet, and a big juicy apple!
